The very latest consolidated edition of the most important IMO Convention. The main purpose of the Convention is, traditionally, to provide the maritime industry with a broad range of measures that have been specifically designed with the intention to improve the safety of human life at sea. Note that the SOLAS Convention is also the oldest one, with its initial released officially adopted more than a century ago, namely in 1914, following the famous tragedy - the sinking of the Titanic resulting in the loss of more than 1500 human lives.

Since that time, the Convention has been re-issued four times in order to be in line with the technological developments happening in the shipping industry. The present volume contains the consolidated text of the Convention and it was prepared to provide readers with an easy and user-friendly reference to all requirements of this Convention that become applicable since July 2014. All amendments to the requirements that are in effect from July 2014 have also been covered in this volume.

Again, there are twelve main chapters in the publication providing the general technical provisions, addressing the structure of the ship, it's subdivision and stability issues, machinery and shipboard electrical installations, fire protection, prevention and firefighting systems, equipment and arrangements, LSA, radio and navigation equipment, transportation of various types of cargoes including dangerous cargo, nuclear ships, safety management, certificates issues to the ships fully complying with the applicable requirements of the Convention, relevant documentation, list of the IMO resolutions and a wealth of other valuable regulatory information.

The FSS Code has been officially adopted by the MSC at it's 73rd session in December 2000 with the aim to provide the maritime industry with the international technical standards relating to the fire safety systems and associated equipment that are required by SOLAS.

The present Code is mandatory under the amendments to SOLAS. The volume contains the required engineering specifications relating to the fire safety arrangements and all equipment concerning the fixed gas-, water-spraying, foam and water mist fire extinguishing systems on ships, sample extraction smoke detection systems on tankers, portable powder, gas and other fire extinguishers of all sizes, PPE, i.e. personal protection equipment, international shore connection, inert gas systems, automatic sprinkler systems, low-location lighting systems, fire detectors, fixed alarm systems, main and emergency fire pumps, means of escape, deck foam systems, fixed hydrocarbons gas detection systems etc.

In addition, the present edition of the FSS Code includes all relevant resolutions of the IMO and also all circulars. The publication is there in the list of mandatory papers that shall be carried on board any ships falling under SOLAS. All information that has been included in the book will be very useful for any crew member dealing with the operation of the above listed equipment or its maintenance.

One of the most important regulatory publications developed and released by IMO. The sixth annex to the MARPOL convention relate to the prevention of the ship-source air pollution and covers the requirements applicable to the emissions to air and energy efficiency.

The 2008 NOx Technical Code supplements the Annex VI and contains the requirements fox control of the NOx, i.e. nitrogen oxides - the provisions of the Code apply to the testing and surveys as well as to the certification of the shipboard diesel engines.

The current release of publication contains the Guidelines together with the other info relating to the application of the Annex VI and the Code, including EGCS, standing for the exhaust gas cleaning systems, selective catalytic reduction systems, and energy efficiency matters.

The document was released to be used by the maritime authorities and recognized organizations, class societies and ship owners, ship builders, manufacturers of the equipment installed on board ships, educational entities etc.

The opening part of the Annex VI provides general information while its four main chapters address the survey and certification, means of control, energy efficiency and emission control, and means of verification of compliance with the requirements contained in the pages of the Annex VI to MARPOL. Absolutely must-have publication for all categories of maritime industry professionals mentioned above.

This is a full set, all three parts of the officially released IAMSAR Manual. The primary declared purpose of these publications is to provide the States with the assistance they require to meet their SAR needs as well as to meet all obligations that these States have accepted under relevant international conventions. The Manual will provide readers with the technical guidance for both maritime and aviation approach to the organization and provision of the search-and-rescue services.

Each of the parts making this Manual has been prepared with particular SAR system - note that they can easily be used as standalone documents. Alternatively, the provisions contained in these volumes can be applied in conjunction with the other parts. You may need to have only one, two or all three volumes readily available and this will depend on the duties you have been assigned. The first volume contains six major chapters covering the general system concepts and main components, training and qualification requirements, system management, communication matters, and ways to improve services.

The second volume is devoted to mission co-ordination including the SAR system, initial and awareness action, operations and techniques involved, emergency assistance, general guidance for the aircraft SAR operations etc. Finally, the last volume is dealing with the mobile facilities and will give readers the information about the rendering assistance and on-board emergencies, coordination of the operations and other important aspects.

This is the very latest official edition of the IMDG Code by IMO, incorporating the amendment no. 39-18. The set is made of two volumes. The general content and arrangement of the material is pretty standard and does not significantly differ from the previous edition of the Code.

The opening art of the first volume provides the provisional and definitions of the Code together with the training requirements, while the following part addresses the classification of the dangerous goods, giving necessary information about each of the nine classes, from explosives to the miscellaneous dangerous and environmentally hazardous substances.

The third and four parts of the document cover the provisions and exceptions, and tank and packing provisions, respectively. The remaining parts of the Volume 1 address the consignment procedures; construction and testing of the packaging used for the transportation and so many other important topics.

The content of the second volume supplements the one of the first document. In short, the Code is a must-have document on board any ship engaged in the marine transportation of the dangerous goods and its provisions shall be complied with at all times.

The officially released guidelines to be used for the implementation of the requirements contained in the Annex V to the MARPOL convention. The documents has several objectives, and the main objective is to assist the states in developing the domestic laws and regulations implementing Annex V and enacting them; it will also provide required assistance to the ship owners and operators, crew members and manufacturers of the equipment willing to reach compliance with the requirements that have been set forth in subject Annex.

In addition, the volume will help port/terminal operators providing reception facilities for the garbage commonly generated on board vessels. The content of the guidebook is arranged in several parts. The guidelines for implementation of the Annex itself is the first part while the second part provides instructions for the development of shipboard garbage management plans.

The next part contains the regulations for garbage pollution prevention including definitions and applications, general prohibitions, information about special areas, special requirements applicable to the fixes/floating offshore installations, exceptions, PSC on operational requirements, placards, record keeping etc. In short, everything related to the prevention of marine pollution by shipboard garbage is covered.

This is a good collection made of the four real-life vessel collision case studies. The incident happened in the Gulf of Mexico in an area south of Louisiana. The incident occurred at night, in good visibility and moderate weather. Two ships, a bulk carrier E and a tanker J were both proceeding outbound at full sea speed and heading of 180 degrees. Additionally, a lash carrier A was proceeding inbound at full sea speed and heading of 326 degrees toward the south-west sea buoy. At a time of twelve minutes before collision, ship A observed the red side light and mast head lights of the two vessels and ship E observed green lights and mast head lights of ship A on a bearing of forty degrees port side. The vessels were in a crossing situation. Meanwhile, ship J has overtaken ship E on her own starboard side….
